Mastalgia (mamalgia, mastodynia) is characterized by pain and tension in the breasts and can be classified as cyclical and non-cyclical. Cyclic mastalgia: this type of breast pain is associated with the menstrual cycle – it occurs in women between the ages of 20 and 50. Cyclic mastalgia is almost always bilateral, diffuse and correlated with the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. The pain occurs due to natural hormonal changes, about a week before menstruation. Initially a weaker pain occurs in the upper outer parts of the chest that disappears spontaneously when menstruation occurs. It does not require further examination and is treated symptomatically (NSAIDs orally and locally).

Non-cyclical mastalgia: This type of breast pain is not related to the menstrual cycle and is more common in women between 40 and 50 years of age. Non-cyclical mastalgia is most often focal – it affects only one breast, usually in one smaller portion of the breast, but it can also spread. Pain can be continuous or sporadic. Non-cyclical mastalgia can be associated with the use of certain drugs, infection, inflammation, the presence of cysts or fibroadenomas, costochondritis, the presence of scar tissue (post-operative), larger breasts. Non-cyclical pain can also occur due to smoking, caffeine consumption, physical or emotional stress, breastfeeding, lack of essential fatty acids (such as linolenic acid) or iodine deficiency.

In many cases, there is no obvious cause of breast pain, and pain is usually not a symptom of breast cancer.

Patients most often describe breast pain as a heavy, dull pain, but also as a pain similar to a stabbing or as a burning sensation.

  • Cabbage leaf extract has, in several studies, shown a positive effect in alleviating tension, heaviness and pain in the breasts, and is traditionally known for its beneficial effect on swelling and inflammatory conditions.
  • Edelweiss stem cell extract (lat. Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract) has, in several studies, shown a positive effect with regard to skin firmness, as well as exhibiting a lifting effect – it is ideal for skin that lacks tone and firmness. Thanks to its exceptional antioxidant potential, Edelweiss stem cell extract restores skin firmness by regenerating mitochondrial dynamism and protecting the integrity of the extracellular matrix. Edelweiss extract is the subject of numerous studies due to its high content of leontopodic acid and other phenolic compounds that show a high level of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. As a result of topical application of Edelweiss stem cell extract, there is a visible tightening and lifting of the skin of the breasts.
  • Fenugreek extract improves hydration of the skin as well as its elasticity and firmness due to it possessing numerous bioactive compounds, especially flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, vitexin) and alkaloids. Also, fenugreek possesses antioxidant and soothing effects.
  • Wintergreen essential oil reduces discomfort and tension in the chest, providing a pleasant cooling sensation. The main ingredient of wintergreen essential oil is methyl salicylate, a derivative of salicylic acid, which can act like salicylate analgoantipyretics, i.e. using the same mechanism to influence inflammatory processes in tissues and reduce painful sensations.
  • Precious raspberry and cotton seed oils are rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins. They intensely nourish and revitalize the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
  • BRESIVA Breast Cream’s complex formulation contributes to the reduction of sweating at the site of application, as it contains sodium hydrogen carbonate that absorbs excess liquid and prevents the occurrence of unpleasant odours. Due to this fact, the occurrence of skin irritations caused by sweating is also reduced.
